DataTalk

Introduction

The AI Module (AI Expert) adds an AI assistant to DataTalk products — operators ask about live and historical data, alarms, documents and schematics in plain language.

The AI Module adds an AI assistant to DataTalk. Operators, maintenance staff and engineers ask questions in plain language — about active alarms, current and historical tag values, the documentation of the plant or its electrical schematics — and get answers without leaving the application. In the application the module is called AI Expert.

AI assistant — a question about the operating manual of a machine and the answer in numbered steps

An add-on to other DataTalk products

The AI Module is not a stand-alone application. It is an add-on that works on top of the data of another DataTalk product, for example:

ProductWhat the AI Module adds
Alarm & NotifyQuestions about active alarms and the alarm history, root cause analysis of alarms
Real time DashboardsQuestions about the live and historical values behind the dashboards
Connect, Log & ReportQuestions about logged data; the AI block in reports
Web HMIAn assistant directly next to the operator screens

The assistant always works with the tags, alarms and history of the project it is installed in.

What it can do

  • Live data — current tag values and active alarms.
  • Historical data — the history of tag values and alarms, for example the most frequent alarms of the last 24 hours.
  • Documentation — manuals, procedures and specifications uploaded to the module.
  • Electrical schematics — schematics exported from EPLAN or another CAD tool as PDF.
  • Root cause analysis — looks for a common cause of several alarms.
  • Voice — questions can be spoken and answers read aloud.
  • Your own language — ask in Czech, German, Polish or another language; the assistant answers in the language selected in the application.
  • Integration — custom tools and an MCP server for external AI agents.

The details are on What AI Expert Can Do.

AI providers

The module works with a cloud service or with models running on your own server:

TypeWhere the model runs
OpenAICloud — needs an API key and internet access
Anthropic (Claude)Cloud — needs an API key and internet access
Google (Gemini)Cloud — needs an API key and internet access
Local (Ollama)On your own server — data does not leave your network. Needs a computer with a suitable graphics card, see Running AI Locally.

Where to find it

  • The assistant — the chat icon in the top bar of the application opens the AI Assistant.
  • The settings — Edit Mode → Settings → AI Expert, see AI Expert Settings.
  • All conversations — the AI Conversation button in the AI Expert settings, see AI Conversations.
Licence

The AI Module is a licensed function — check that your DataTalk licence includes it.
