Linux Installation

Step-by-step guide to install DataTalk Manager on Ubuntu or Debian

On this page

DataTalk Manager can be installed on Ubuntu, Debian, and other compatible 64-bit Linux distributions. No graphical interface is required โ€” both the manager and the runtime are fully web-based, accessible from any browser.

Requirements
  • OS: Ubuntu 20.04+ or Debian 11+ (64-bit)
  • CPU: 64-bit x86 with AVX support โ€” DataTalk does not run without it
  • Virtualization: enabled in BIOS/UEFI or VM settings
  • Docker Engine: must be installed and running before the DataTalk installer is run
  • Ports: HTTP 80 and HTTPS 443 by default
  • Permissions: sudo access required during installation
Installing in a virtual machine? Set the CPU type to host

DataTalk does not run at all on a CPU without the AVX instruction set. Hypervisors often do not pass AVX to the VM โ€” in Proxmox, the default CPU types kvm64 and x86-64-v2-AES do not include it.

Before installing, set the VMโ€™s CPU type to host (VM โ†’ Hardware โ†’ Processors โ†’ Type, or qm set <VMID> --cpu host) and fully stop and start the VM. See DataTalk does not run in a virtual machine for other hypervisors and how to verify it.

Docker not installed yet?

Use the official helper script to install Docker Engine on Ubuntu/Debian before proceeding:

curl -fsSL https://myscada.org/downloads/Manager_app/install_docker.sh -o install_docker.sh
sudo chmod +x install_docker.sh
sudo ./install_docker.sh

Step-by-step installation

Linux โ€” .sh installer
Ubuntu ยท Debian ยท 64-bit
Download
Open a terminal in the Downloads folder

Navigate to the directory where the .sh installer was saved โ€” typically ~/Downloads:

cd ~/Downloads

Replace X.X_XXXXXX with the actual version string from the filename. You can type DataTalk and press Tab to autocomplete:

sudo chmod +x ./DataTalkManager_X.X_XXXXXX_x64.sh
Run the installer

Start the installation with sudo:

sudo ./DataTalkManager_X.X_XXXXXX_x64.sh

Follow the on-screen prompts to choose installation directories and configure ports.

Reboot the device

After installation completes, reboot to finish the setup:

sudo reboot
Open DataTalk Manager in a browser

After reboot, the DataTalk Manager web interface is available on port 34023:

Same machine โ€” http://127.0.0.1:34023

Other device on network โ€” http://<device-ip>:34023

Log in with your manager password to start using DataTalk.

Running without a desktop environment?
